The TCU Horned Frogs finished the 2002 football season ranked among the nation's elite, as the final polls were released on Saturday. The Conference USA co-champion Horned Frogs were the 22nd-ranked team in the country, according to the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and ranked 23rd by the nation's writers in the final Associated Press poll.
The Horned Frogs completed a 10-2 season with a 17-3 victory over Colorado State in the 44th annual AXA Liberty Bowl in Memphis on December 31. TCU, which boasted the nation's top defense, held the high-powered Ram offense to just 139 total yards. It marked the second time in three years that the Frogs posted a 10-win season.
The 2000 squad also finished with a 10-2 record and ranked 18th in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and 21st in the Associated Press poll. That squad featured Doak Walker Award winner LaDainian Tomlinson.
