DENTON, Texas - The TCU Volleyball team (6-5) dropped a three-game match against its neighbor from the north, North Texas. The Lady Eagles capitalized on each Frog error to win the match that lasted just over one hour.
The Lady Eagles took charge in game one, leading by as many as 12 late in the first round. The Frogs tried to rally and scored on a block from senior Stephanie Watson and sophomore Dominika Szabo followed by a kill from Szabo. However, UNT took the game, 30-17.
Game two was all North Texas. Even though the Frogs were able to pull within five points midway through, they could never get any closer. The Lady Eagles won the second game, 30-19, and took a 2-0 lead into intermission.
North Texas controlled game three with a vengeance, allowing TCU only seven points in the entire third game. UNT claimed the 30-7 victory and 3-0 match win to move to 4-9 on the season.
Szabo led the Frogs with nine kills, while Watson posted 27 attacks. Junior Tori Barlow posted 19 assists and senior Jenn Cuca had the lone ace of the evening. Junior Courtney Beach hit the floor for nine digs to lead the team, and five Frogs were credited with one block apiece.
The Frogs' road trip continues as they head to South Carolina for the Clemson Invitational where they will take on Coastal Carolina (Friday, 3:30 p.m. CT), Virginia Tech (Saturday, 11:00 a.m. CT) and host Clemson (Saturday, 6:00 p.m. CT) during the weekend. Their next homestand is Oct. 4 and 5, when TCU opens Conference USA action by hosting Southern Miss and Tulane.
