FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team placed four players on all-conference squads and head coach Roland Ingram was named the 2002 Conference USA Coach of the Year as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches. The Frogs led all Conference USA teams with four all-league selections, followed by Houston and Marquette with three each and Tulane and Memphis with two apiece.
Ingram, the only full-time head coach in TCU's women's tennis history, has been named conference coach of the year five times in three conferences throughout his TCU career - Southwest Conference in 1986, 1991; WAC in 2000, 2001; and C-USA in 2002. He enters the May 10 NCAA Championship with a 327-154 (.680) mark. The Horned Frogs earned Conference USA's automatic bid to the NCAAs when they won the C-USA Championship April 21 in Fort Worth. Ingram's teams have posted 16 winning campaigns and will be making their sixth NCAA Regional appearance. This marks TCU's third-straight 20-win season and the sixth in Ingram's tenure. The 2001 ITA Southwest Region Coach of the Year is a member of the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame and has served as a coach in several U.S. Olympic Festivals.
Sophomore Paty Aburto and senior Katrin Gaber were both named to the Conference USA First Team. Aburto has posted a 15-7 singles mark during the spring, while Gaber has earned a 14-5 record. Named to Third Team All-Conference USA were junior Rosa Perez and sophomore Saber Pierce. Perez has turned in a 16-3 singles record to go with the 16-5 doubles mark she shares with doubles partner Aburto. Pierce has put together a 19-4 spring singles mark after being injured much of the fall.
