
Browne Named Semifinalist for Socrates Award

TCU placekicker Nick Browne is one of eight semi-finalists for the fourth annual Sporting News Radio Socrates Award. The Award is presented annually to the college athlete who best exemplifies excellence in athletics and academics.
Browne is a first team Verizon Academic All-American on the football field. He led the nation with an average of 2.00 field goals made per game during the 2002 season while earning first team All-Conference USA accolades. He also is a member of the TCU men's soccer team and carries a 4.00 GPA in the classroom while majoring in finance-real estate. Browne was named TCU's Male Athlete of the Year following the 2001-02 school year.
Previous winners of the Socrates Award include Purdue's Drew Brees in 2000; Ben Hamilton of Minnesota in 2001 and Andre Davis of Virginia Tech in 2002. They each exemplified the criteria of the Socrates Creed, which the Award embodies:
