Volleyball Falls to Cincinnati in Four

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Volleyball (11-15, 3-7 C-USA) team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cincinnati Bearcats (18-6, 9-1 C-USA) on Friday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Junior setter Tori Barlow tallied her 1,000th assist of 2002 in game four to become only the third Frog in school history to earn 1,000 or more assists in a season (also: Annie Gant (1996, 1997) and Lindsay Hayes (1999, 2000)).
The teams were fairly even in the early goings of game one, until the Bearcats were able to break a nine all tie. From then on, Cincinnati gradually stretched their lead from three to as many as eight. The Frogs scored on two consecutive UC game points, but the Bearcats took game one, 30-23.
In game two, the Frogs jumped to a quick lead. With TCU leading by six at 21-15, Cincinnati scored the next seven points to take a 22-21 advantage. The teams traded points, until the Bearcats broke out again to a 27-24 lead. TCU battled behind the serving of freshman Carissa Mills, along with a pair of kills from freshman Erin Estep and a trio from senior Stephanie Watson to claim the second round by a 30-27 count.
Game three was all Bearcats as they raced to lead by as many as 13 (23-10). The Frogs were able to cut the lead to eight, but fell short, 30-21.
The Frogs led the first third of the fourth stanza. Once again, the teams were tied at 17-17 before UC crept out to a three-point lead. Able to stretch that advantage to as many as six (24-18), the Bearcats let TCU back in and the Frogs cut it to 23-22. However, Cincinnati pushed to the end, winning 30-24.
Sophomore Dominika Szabo led the Frogs with 23 kills on 60 attacks and one ace. Barlow ended the night with 46 assists to move her season total to 1,011. Senior Jenn Cuca tallied 21 digs, while freshman Hayley Harmon earned five blocks and one ace. Mills picked up the Frogs' final ace of the night.
Julie DuPont who tallied 22 kills on 58 attacks along with 19 digs led Cincinnati. Laura Lauder posted 60 assists and three aces, while Trish Ladusaw picked up 19 digs as well. Rachel Torblaa earned eight blocks for the evening.
TCU's final home match of 2002 is Sat., Nov. 9 when the Frogs entertain the Louisville Cardinals. Frog seniors Jenn Cuca and Stephanie Watson will be honored prior to the match.
