FORT WORTH, Texas - Coming off one of the most prolific seasons in TCU and Conference USA history, Horned Frog outfielder Terry Trofholz (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior/Creighton) has been named a second-team preseason all-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
The senior, who shattered the C-USA record by posting a .441 batting average in 2002, earned second-team postseason all-America plaudits from the NCBWA, Baseball Weekly and the American Baseball Coaches Association last season. He also collected first-team all-conference honors and was named Metroplex Player of the Year by the Society for Baseball Research. He rounded out his list of 2002 honors with a spot on the Easton/Redline All-Defensive Team.
In addition to setting the C-USA batting record, Trofholz also tied the TCU record for hits in a season with 94. His .441 average ranked seventh nationally in 2002 and was the second highest mark in TCU history. A versatile threat on the field, Trofholz posted a 21-game hitting streak and led the Frogs with 22 stolen bases and eight outfield assists a year ago.
Trofholz is coming off an impressive summer with the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League. He batted a team-high .336 in the collegiate wooden bat league and did not commit an error in the outfield en route to first-team all-Alaska honors.
Trofholz and the Horned Frogs open the 2003 campaign on February 5 when they host Texas-Arlington in the first-ever game to be played at TCU's new baseball home, Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field.
