MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The TCU Volleyball (10-14, 2-6 C-USA) team dropped its second consecutive league match on Friday night to Marquette University (11-11, 2-7 C-USA). The Golden Eagles snapped a four-match winless streak with the victory. TCU will travel to Chicago to take on Conference USA opponent DePaul on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The Frogs led through much of game one. Able to stretch their lead to seven at 20-13 on a kill by freshman Erin Estep, the Frogs let the Golden Eagles back in as MU scored the next four points to cut the TCU lead to three. It looked like TCU would take the match going away as they were ahead 29-26 on another kill by Estep, but a Golden Eagle kill, service ace and Frog attack error tied the match at 29 all. Marquette grabbed the next two points and captured the 31-29 win in game one.
Marquette took the lead in game two after breaking the 11-11 tie. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to four before the Frogs tied the game at 21 all. MU crept back out in the lead until TCU tied things up at 28-28 on a block from freshman Carissa Mills and Estep. The teams traded points until the Golden Eagles scored the final two to win 32-30 and take a two-game lead into intermission.
The Golden Eagles took early control of the third game, jumping out to a 9-1 lead. TCU was able to rally to get within three at 14-11, but could never get any closer than that. Marquette ran away after that to earn the 30-20 game three victory.
Sophomore Dominika Szabo and Mills each tallied nine kills for the evening, while Szabo also posted 33 attacks and nine digs to lead the Frogs. Junior Tori Barlow had 28 assists for the evening. Estep was credited with two aces and four blocks for the night.
TCU's final homestand will come Nov. 8 and 9 when the Frogs entertain Cincinnati and Louisville.
