FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Volleyball (8-10, 0-2 C-USA) dropped a 3-1 match to the Tulane Green Wave (9-9, 1-1 C-USA) on Saturday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The team will look to rebound in conference play when they visit Saint Louis and Memphis next weekend.
Game one was tight until the Green Wave broke the 18-18 tie by scoring the next five points. TCU added only one more point to its score, as Tulane cruised to the 30-19 win.
Tulane started out fast in the second game before TCU tied the match at 11-11 and took the lead until 19 all. The Green Wave refused to go away and the two teams traded points much of the remainder of game two. The game was tied 11 times with 10 of those coming from 19-19 on. The last tie came at 31 all when freshman Erin Estep hammered home a kill. Sophomore Dominika Szabo added her own to make the score 32-31, and an attack error by Tulane gave the Frogs the 33-31 victory to tie the match 1-1 entering intermission.
The Frogs got off to a slow start in game three, allowing Tulane to lead by as many as eight several different times. TCU tried to creep back in, but the Green Wave captured game three, 30-21.
Game four was neck and neck throughout. The score was tied on 10 occasions, with the last occurring at 19-19 on a kill by freshman Hayley Harmon. Tulane was able to push out to a four-point lead and never looked back, taking the 30-23 win and the match.
"We have to play from one to 30," said head coach Prentice Lewis. "The things we did well get washed away by not playing 20 to 30 [points]."
Szabo led the Frogs in kills for the fifth straight match with 15 and added 43 attacks. Junior Tori Barlow had 38 assists to lead the team in that category. Harmon and senior Jenn Cuca each had one ace. Cuca also had 14 digs for the evening, while Harmon had six blocks.
TCU gets back on the road for the team's next three matches as they travel to Saint Louis and Memphis Oct. 11 and 12, then visit Houston on Oct. 18. The squad's next home stint will come Oct. 25 and 26 when UAB and South Florida come to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
