FORT WORTH, Texas - A pair of TCU freshmen, Ben Spitz and Drew Stoltz, have decided to redshirt the 2002-03 golf season, TCU head coach Bill Montigel announced today. The duo will work on their golf games this year and will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2003-04 season.
"This is a great opportunity for Ben and Drew to continue to develop," Montigel said. "Both of these guys have great ability, and if they continue to work hard, they will be key performers for TCU golf in the future."
Both Spitz and Stoltz were highly-recruited golfers who ranked among the nation's top 200 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Boys Ratings. Spitz, who is from Norwell, Mass., was rated 11th, while Stoltz, who is from Fort Collins, Colo., was rated 168th. The Horned Frog golf team is currently ranked 10th in the nation according to Golfweek.
