
Horned Frog Golfers in Third Place at Jerry Pate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The TCU men's golf team carded an impressive five-under-par score of 563 over the first two rounds of the prestigious Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Monday. The Horned Frogs shot under par as a team in both the morning and afternoon sessions to get in position to make a run for their second team victory of the fall season.
Nationally-ranked No. 2 Clemson leads the field after shooting a pair of six-under 278s in the first two rounds. The Tigers are six strokes ahead of No. 6 Texas, seven strokes ahead of No. 14 TCU, and eight strokes ahead of No. 20 UNLV and No. 4 Wake Forest. Eight of the 12 teams finished the day under par, as No. 8 Arizona and No. 1 Georgia Tech are both -3 and Arizona is -1.
"We really played some great golf today," TCU head coach Bill Montigel said. "We have a tremendous opportunity tomorrow to play in the final group of the day with two of the best teams in the country in Clemson and Texas. This young team will benefit a lot from this."
Playing for TCU are senior Adam Rubinson, sophomore David Schultz, sophomore J.J. Killeen, freshman Colby Beckstrom and redshirt freshman Mark Jauernek, who is playing in his first career tournament. Individual scores for the Horned Frog golfers were not available at press time.
The Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate will conclude on Tuesday with the final round of competition over the Old Overton layout in Birmingham, Ala.
