The TCU Horned Frogs (10-5, 0-1 C-USA) return to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum to host Memphis (11-4, 1-0 C-USA) in the Frogs' first-ever home Conference USA contest. Tipoff for the Wednesday, January 9th contest is set for 8:35 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The Frogs are coming off of a 117-108 loss at South Florida, while Memphis defeated Southern Miss, 75-53. TCU will then hit the road for two straight conference games as they travel to Louisville (Jan. 12) and Houston (Jan. 15). Overall, four of TCU's first six conference games are on the road. TCU will return to Daniel-Meyer on Saturday, January 19, when they host Tulane.
Radio/TV: The Memphis game can be heard on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM or KTCU (88.7 FM) with Brian Estridge (play-by-play) and former TCU basketball letterman Herb Stephens (analysis) describing the action. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 with Bob Carpenter and Jimmy Dykes calling the action.
Billy Tubbs: One of the nation's winningest coaches, Billy Tubbs is in his 8th season at TCU and his 28th overall as a head coach. His career record stands at 589-287, which places him 12th among the NCAA's winningest active coaches. Tubbs needs only 11 wins to reach the 600 victory plateau. Only 35 coaches have won at least 600 games in their respective careers. While at TCU, Tubbs has recorded a win-loss mark of 150-85. He is assisted by Brian Fish, Rob Flaska and Scott Edgar.
Home Sweet Home: Under Billy Tubbs, Daniel-Meyer Coliseum has developed into one of the more difficult places for opponents to play. Since arriving in Fort Worth, Tubbs' coached teams have posted an impressive 100-21 mark at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, plus they are 3-0 in games played at the Fort Worth Convention Center. In home conference games, the Frogs are 37-14 under Tubbs. Last season, the Frogs recorded a 15-1 win-loss mark at Daniel-Meyer, including a 7-1 record in conference games.
TCU vs. Memphis: This is the fourth meeting between TCU and Memphis, and the Tigers have won each of previous three games. The two teams last met in the 1976 season, when Memphis defeated TCU, 116-72. TCU and Memphis also played in the 1966 season, a 56-54 win by Memphis in Fort Worth, and the 1967 season, a 65-61 Memphis win at Memphis.
About The Memphis Tigers: Memphis is coached by former NBA head coach John Calipari. Now in his second season at Memphis, Calipari has a win-loss record of 225-90 in nine-plus years of coaching at the college level. Last season, Memphis posted a 21-15 record and advanced to the NIT championship game, where they lost to Tulsa. This year, the Tigers are led by freshman guard Dajuan Wagner, who is averaging 21.6 points per game. Forward Kelly Wise (12.1) and Scooter McFadgon (11.8) are also scoring in double figures. The Tigers, who are averaging 81.6 points per game, have won five of their last six games, which includes wins over Tennessee and Temple.
