The TCU Horned Frogs (10-10, 0-6 C-USA) return to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Saturday, January 26 to host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (6-10, 1-5 C-USA) in a Conference USA contest. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m. The Frogs, who have dropped six straight games, are looking for their first win in conference play. On Tuesday, the Frogs lost at Marquette, 83-72, while Houston defeated Southern Miss, 74-66. Beginning with the Southern Miss contest, four of the next five games for the Frogs will be played at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Frogs will next host UAB on Tuesday, January 29.
Radio/TV: The Southern Miss game can be heard on KMKI Disney 620 AM radio and KTCU (88.7 FM) with Brian Estridge (play-by-play) and former TCU basketball letterman Herb Stephens (analysis) describing the action. The game will be not be televised.
Billy Tubbs: One of the nation's winningest coaches, Billy Tubbs is in his 8th season at TCU and his 28th overall as a head coach. His career record stands at 589-292, which places him 12th among the NCAA's winningest active coaches. Tubbs is 11 wins shy of the 600 victory plateau. Only 35 coaches have won at least 600 games in their respective careers. While at TCU, Tubbs has recorded a win-loss mark of 150-90. He is assisted by Brian Fish, Rob Flaska and Scott Edgar.
Home Sweet Home: Under Billy Tubbs, Daniel-Meyer Coliseum has developed into one of the more difficult places for opponents to play. Since arriving in Fort Worth, Tubbs' coached teams have posted an impressive 100-23 mark at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, plus they are 3-0 in games played at the Fort Worth Convention Center. In home conference games, the Frogs are 37-16 under Tubbs. Last season, the Frogs recorded a 15-1 win-loss mark at Daniel-Meyer, including a 7-1 record in conference games.
TCU vs. Southern Miss: This is the first meeting between TCU and Southern Miss. Billy Tubbs has a record of 1-2 in three previous meetings vs. Southern Miss. Tubbs last faced the Golden Eagles in the 1980-81 season, when Oklahoma lost at Southern Miss, 74-66. While at Lamar, Tubbs and the Cardinals faced Southern Miss twice in the 1976-77 season. The Cardinals lost at Southern Miss (93-90) and won at Lamar (95-78).
About The Southern Miss Golden Eagles: Southern Miss enters the game with a record of 6-10 this season, 1-5 in conference play. The lone conference win for Southern Miss was a 50-36 win at UAB. The Golden Eagles are coached by James Green, who has recorded a win-loss mark of 93-73 in five-plus seasons. Senior forward Elvin Mims leads the Golden Eagles in scoring (18.9) and rebounding (6.9). As a team, Southern Miss is scoring 61.6 points, while allowing 64.9. Last season, the Golden Eagles finished the year with a 22-9 record, 11-5 in C-USA play, finishing in a tie for first in the National Division. Their lone win in C-USA play was a 50-36 win vs. UAB.
