Frogs Hit the Road for Two Straight C-USA Games: The TCU Horned Frogs (10-6, 0-2 C-USA) travel to Louisville, Kentucky Saturday, January 12 to face the Louisville Cardinals (10-3, 1-1 C-USA). The contest, which will be the first of two straight on the road for TCU, will be televised in Louisville. The Frogs have dropped their first two conference games, while Louisville has split its first two games in C-USA. Both teams dropped hard fought games on Wednesday, as the Frogs lost to Memphis by a score of 98-93, while Marquette won at Louisville, 75-71. TCU will next travel to Houston on Tuesday, January 15 to face former Southwest Conference rival Houston.
Radio/TV: The Louisville game can be heard on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM or KTCU (88.7 FM) with Brian Estridge (play-by-play) and former TCU basketball letterman Herb Stephens (analysis) describing the action. The game will not be televised in Fort Worth-Dallas.
Billy Tubbs: One of the nation's winningest coaches, Billy Tubbs is in his 8th season at TCU and his 28th overall as a head coach. His career record stands at 589-288, which places him 12th among the NCAA's winningest active coaches. Tubbs needs only 11 wins to reach the 600 victory plateau. Only 35 coaches have won at least 600 games in their respective careers. While at TCU, Tubbs has recorded a win-loss mark of 150-86. He is assisted by Brian Fish, Rob Flaska and Scott Edgar.
Home Sweet Home: Under Billy Tubbs, Daniel-Meyer Coliseum has developed into one of the more difficult places for opponents to play. Since arriving in Fort Worth, Tubbs' coached teams have posted an impressive 100-22 mark at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, plus they are 3-0 in games played at the Fort Worth Convention Center. In home conference games, the Frogs are 37-15 under Tubbs. Last season, the Frogs recorded a 15-1 win-loss mark at Daniel-Meyer, including a 7-1 record in conference games.
TCU vs. Louisville: This is the first meeting between TCU and Louisville, but TCU head coach Billy Tubbs has faced Louisville three times, posting a 2-1 record. Tubbs last faced the Cardinals in the 1988 NCAA tournament, when Oklahoma defeated Louisville, 108-98, in the West Regional. The Frogs last played in the state of Kentucky on January 20, 1996, when Rick Pitino and the Kentucky Wildcats defeated TCU, 124-80. That same season, Kentucky went on to win the NCAA title.
About The Louisville Cardinals: Louisville is coached by former NBA head coach Rick Pitino, who is in his first season at Louisville. Before going to Louisville, he spent three and half seasons as the president/head coach of the Boston Celtics. Pitino coached for eight years at Kentucky, where he won one NCAA title. This season, the Cardinals are 10-3 with their losses coming on the road at Oregon and Kentucky, plus the loss at home on Wednesday to Marquette. The Cardinals are led by Reece Gaines, who is averaging 19.3 points on 46.5% shooting. Gaines, who has hit 39 three-pointers, also leads the team in assists with 43. Ellis Myles leads the squad in rebounds with an average of 10.5.
