TCU Cross Country set to open 2001 season

Fort Worth - The TCU men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2001 season this weekend when they travel to Arlington to compete in the Movin' Mavs Cross Country Challenge.
The Movin' Mavs Challenge will be hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington Saturday, September 8, at The Gerald Richey Cross Country Course at Vandergriff Park. The women's two-mile race will begin at 8 a.m., with the men's four-mile race following at 8:30 a.m. Competing in the meet will be TCU, UTA, SMU, North Texas and Oklahoma.
The TCU women are led by senior Glady's Keitany, the 2000 WAC individual champion. Last season, Keitany placed in the top three in every event in which she competed, including four first-place finishes, prior to her 40th place finish at the NCAA Championships. Other key returnees include Robin Schacht, who was TCU's second-place finisher in all six of the events she competed in last season, including a fourth-place finish at the 2000 WAC Championships, and Katie Singleton, who earned second-team All-WAC honors last season after finishing 12th in the conference meet.
Also competing for the women's team are: Georgeanne Biancardi, Cindy Dietrich, Jamie Ford, Leah Hendricks, Ashlee Inman, Bria Lanzara, Shannon McKinney, Emily Norton, Alexis Sanchez and Stephanie Wentworth.
The TCU men are led by senior Eliud Njubi, who earned All-American honors last season. Njubi won the WAC Individual title, then finished 28th in the NCAA Championships. Also competing for the TCU men on Saturday are: Stephen Goff, Stuart Harrison, Bryan Katchinska, Steven Lenney, Sean McMahon, Justin Pillsbury, Raita Yamanouchi.
The TCU cross country teams will next compete in the Baylor Invitational on September 22.
