CINCINNATI, Ohio - The TCU volleyball team (3-9, 1-3 C-USA) dropped the second match of their road trip to Cincinnati (6-5, 3-1) in a tough four-game match. Three Frogs had double-doubles for the evening.
Game one was a point for point battle as the Frogs had four game-point opportunities before allowing UC to win the game 35-33 in extended play. The second game was much of the same as the teams traded points and it took another extended play round for the Frogs to come out on top 35-33.
In game three, TCU led by as many as four points before UC made a run to take the lead at 22-21. Neither team let up, but the Bearcats took game three by a score of 30-28. The Frogs got down early in game four and never were able to get themselves out of the hole. UC took the game 30-10.
"I was really excited about the first three games. It was point for point volleyball," according to head coach Sandy Troudt. "In the first game, we had four game-point opportunities. Neither team ever really had a huge lead on the other. We were emotionally flat in the fourth game, got behind and then got buried."
"Marci (King), Domi (Szabo) and Ally (Lynch) all had good nights for us. Jenn (Cuca) put some numbers up on the board for us."
Seniors Marci King and Allison Lynch had their 46th and 3rd career double-doubles respectively. King had 16 kills and 10 digs, while Lynch had 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Tori Barlow had her 2nd double-double with her 29 assists and 10 digs for the evening. Junior Jennifer Cuca and freshman Dominika Szabo just missed double-doubles as they had 16 kills/9 digs and 11 kills/9 digs respectively.
The Frogs were led in kills by King and Lynch (16 each), in assists by Barlow (29) and in digs by Lynch (14). Lynch and Szabo each had one ace for the night.
The Frogs meet cross-town rival SMU on Tuesday, October 2 in a 7:00 p.m. match in Dallas. TCU returns home for conference matches against Memphis (Friday, October 5) and Saint Louis (Saturday, October 6). Both matches have 7:00 p.m. start times and will be held in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
