LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The TCU volleyball team (3-8, 1-2 C-USA) dropped their second conference contest in a hard-fought three-game match against 25th-ranked Louisville (8-1, 3-0) Friday night on the road.
The Frogs led early in the first game before the Cardinals took control and led by as many as seven points (22-15). However, TCU refused to roll over and fought back to stay in the game, pulling within two on a service ace from senior Marci King. Neither team could control the action from that point and the teams traded points in the rally scoring format, but the Cards came out on top in the game 30-26.
Louisville took the early lead in game two, but the Frogs, again refusing to just hand the game to the Cards, worked to take a 15-11 lead. Louisville took a time-out and then went on an 8-1 run helped by strong serving from Sarah Drury. TCU pulled within three at 18-21 on a kill from junior Jennifer Cuca, but could not make it over the hump and dropped game two 30-23.
Game three was almost all-Cards as Louisville took the game 30-17.
"The first game and a half were the best overall volleyball we've played all season," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "It was a total team effort. Our serving, blocking, digging and ability to make good shots was so much better in the first half of the match."
"I'm disappointed we couldn't get a game from them. I really thought we could push this to four or five games. We were up 15-11 in game two and let them back in to things."
"It was good to have Domi (Szabo) back. She had a good match tonight - she led us in digs (8). Jennifer (Sebastian) and Allison (Lynch) blocked better."
King and Lynch led the Frogs in kills with eight apiece. Sophomore Tori Barlow led the team in assists with 15, while King also had two aces for the evening.
The Frogs continue on the Louisville-Cincinnati junket when they take on Cincinnati in a 7:00 p.m. match on September 29. Cincinnati competed in the 2000 NCAA volleyball tournament. TCU returns home on Friday, October 5 to take on Memphis at 7:00 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer.
