SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 24, 2001) - Led by junior transfer Jessica Green's (Lufkin, Texas/Angelina College) record-breaking performance, TCU's rifle team opened the 2001-02 season in style by claiming the air rifle title and a second-place finish in the smallbore competition at the USF Invitational in San Francisco.
In her first meet in the Purple and White, Green set the TCU record with an 1,116 score in the smallbore. The mark led all individual shooters at the meet and broke the previous Horned Frog record of 1,111 set by Michelle Parker on November 11, 2000. Despite Green's effort, the Frogs were not able to overcome USF's women finishing second with a team total of 3,965.
However, TCU captured the air rifle competition, posting a team total of 1,382, three points better than the USF women. Again, the Horned Frogs were paced by Green's team high 362.
Senior Leticia Marquez (Alamo, Texas/Donna) placed second on the squad in both disciplines, notching a 343 in the air rifle and 974 smallbore mark.
The Frogs return to action when they host the 2001 Horned Frog Invitational beginning October 5 in Fort Worth.
