FORT WORTH, TEXAS (April 23, 2001) -- The TCU Horned Frogs were well represented in the NFL draft, as six players were taken during the two-day event. The six players were the most the school has had since 1967, when the AFL and NFL drafts were combined.
Leading the way was running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who was selected by the San Diego Chargers with the fifth pick in the draft. Tomlinson, the Doak Walker Award winner as the nation?s top running back, was the first running back selected in the draft and the first player from TCU taken in the first round since Norm Bulaich in 1970. Defensive end Aaron Schobel was selected in the second round by the Buffalo Bills at No. 46.
Four Frogs were taken in the fourth round. Fullback George Layne was the first TCU player to go on Sunday. He was picked in the fourth round by Kansas City with 108th pick overall. Safety Curtis Fuller, who spent his high school career at Fort Worth Christian, went to Seattle with the 127th pick. Minnesota closed out the fourth round by taking defensive tackle Shawn Worthen at No. 130 and wide receiver Cedric James of Kennedale at No. 131.
