Cold, Rain Limit Flyin' Frogs in Season Opener

WACO, Texas -- Cold and wet weather kept many of the TCU track and field athletes on the sidelines as the Flyin' Frogs opened their 2001 outdoor season at the Dr Pepper Invitational on the Baylor campus in Waco Saturday.
The Frogs withdrew from the event after the 110-meter high hurdles. However, they garnered four first-place finishes before the inclimate weather sent them back to Fort Worth. The Frogs swept the 1,500 meter run with Glady's Keitany taking the women's race in a time of 4.41.10, while Eliud Njubi captured the men's side with a 3:45.64, less than one second off an NCAA provisional time. The Frogs showed their sprinting depth by taking both first and second place in the 4x100 meter relay, with the winning squad turning in a time of 40.35. Jason Howard took first place in the long jump with a mark of 7.61 meters or 24 feet, 11 and three-quarters inches. Teammates Aundre Edwards and Abdul Rasheed finished second and fourth respectively.
The Frogs will be in action again next Saturday when they take part in the UTA Invitational in Arlington.
