A visit to the Hermann Children's Hospital highlighted the Christmas Day activities as the TCU Horned Frogs continued their preparations for the 2001 galleryfurniture.com Bowl. The Frogs will face Texas A&M in the Astrodome on Friday, December 28. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised on ESPN.
Head coach Gary Patterson and 21 Horned Frog players joined a group of Texas A&M players and head coach R.C. Slocum at the Hermann Children's Hospital in Houston. The players distributed gifts to the children, handed out cookies and doughnuts to the hospital staff and spread goodwill and Christmas cheer throughout their 90-minute stay.
"We had a great visit," said Patterson. "It was a chance for us to give something back to people who are having difficulties at this time of the year."
"It was just amazing," added senior tailback Andrew Hayes-Stoker. "A lot of the children looked very sad at first. It was nice to see you could get some of them to smile, at least for the moment."
"It was great being able to make people's day on Christmas," noted freshman wide receiver Reggie Harrell. "They enjoyed us being there. The doctors like it too. It made their day as well."
Following the hospital visit, the Frogs hit the field for a 90-minute workout at the University of Houston facilities as they continued preparations for Friday's clash with the Aggies. It marked their final outdoor practice of the year.
"We've had fun this week when we've supposed to have fun, but have been focused when we need to focus," said Patterson. "We did a great job last week in getting a base established for this game. It's easy to lose your focus once you come to a bowl site, but we haven't done that."
The Frogs will have their first practice in the Astrodome on Wednesday morning.
