
Men's Golf In Fifth After First Round at Prestige

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Horned Frog men's golf team is currently in fifth place among 20 teams at The Prestige at Palm Desert. The seventh-ranked Frogs opened the tournament with a six-under par 282 in the first round and are currently four strokes out of the lead.
Senior Bret Guetz fired a three-under 69 over the first 18 holes to pace TCU. He currently sits in a tie for ninth place overall, five strokes behind the tournament leader, Travis Hurst of Kansas.
A trio of Frogs, junior Adam Rubinson, senior Andy Doeden and freshman J.J. Killeen, all shot 71s on day one. The three players have a share of 22nd place heading into the final two rounds. Senior Steve Shuert, the Frogs' final member, shot a 76 and is in a tie for 74th.
Kansas and UC Davis are tied for the team lead after round one with a score of 278. The two schools are followed closely by Washington (280), Colorado (281) and TCU (282). The Prestige, hosted by UC Davis and Stanford, is in its second year of bringing together 20 of the nation's top academic and golf-playing universities.
Much of the second round was completed on Monday before darkness fell, but no scores are available. The remainder of that round will be completed on Tuesday morning and will be immediately followed by 18 holes to compete the third and final round of the tournament.
