The TCU Horned Frogs open the 2001-2002 basketball season tonight with an exhibition game against a Czechoslovakia select team that is touring the United States. Tonight's game is the first of two exhibition games for the Horned Frogs.
Radio/TV: TCU basketball can be heard on KTCU (88.7 FM) with Brian Estridge (play-by-play) and former TCU basketball letterman Herb Stephens (analysis) describing the action. This game will not be televised.
Billy Tubbs: One of the nation's winningest coaches, Billy Tubbs is in his 8th season at TCU and his 28th overall as a head coach. His career record stands at 579-282, which places him 12th among the NCAA's winningest active coaches. Tubbs needs only 21 wins to reach the 600 victory plateau. Only 35 coaches have won at least 600 games in their respective careers. While at TCU, Tubbs has recorded a win-loss mark of 140-80. He is assisted by Brian Fish, Rob Flaska and Scott Edgar.
Home Sweet Home: Under Billy Tubbs, Daniel-Meyer Coliseum has developed into one of the more difficult places for opponents to play. Since arriving in Fort Worth, Tubbs' coached teams have posted an impressive 94-19 mark at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Conference USA: The Frogs are in their first season in Conference USA, one of the top basketball leagues in the nation. During C-USA play, the Frogs will compete in the National Division, facing Houston, Memphis, South Florida, Southern Miss, Tulane and UAB both home and away. Plus, TCU will face four members of the American Division. The Frogs will travel to Marquette and Louisville, and they will host DePaul and East Carolina. During the regular-season, TCU will not face Charlotte, Cincinnati or Saint Louis. The head coaches in the league have picked TCU to finish fifth in the National Division.
Czech-Select: This is the first of five games in the United States for the Czech-Select team. They next play at SMU on Wednesday, November 7.
Up Next: TCU will return to action Thursday, November 8, when they host Athletes First at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The contest will be the second and final exhibition game of the season. Last season, TCU defeated Athletes First, 111-92. The regular-season gets underway Friday, November 16, when the Frogs entertain Northwestern State in a 8:05 p.m. tipoff at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
