Greenville, South Carolina - Senior cross country standout Glady's Keitany completed her TCU athletic career with a 31st place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Champion-ships, held today at Furman University. Keitany completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21.20.
"Glady's ran really well," said TCU cross country coach Derek Koonts. "The course was a lot tougher than everyone thought. Glady's passed about eight runners over the final mile or so."
Keitany was the Conference USA individual champion and finished third at the South Central Regional meet. She placed 40th at the NCAA Championships last season. Arizona's Tara Chaplin won the individual crown with a time of 20.24.
On the men's side, TCU standout Eliud Njubi suffered from stomach cramps and was unable to complete the 10k race.
"Eliud probably went out a little too fast," admitted Koonts. "He was in the top five, but developed a cramp at around the 2 1/2 mile mark and that was it."
Njubi was the Conference USA individual champion and also was the South Central Regional champion. Njubi earned All-America honors last year after placing 28th at the NCAA Championships. Boaz Chboiywo from Eastern Michigan was the individual winner with a time of 28:47.
