Njubi, Keitany set to run at NCAA Cross Country Championships

NCAA Cross Country Championships
TCU's Eliud Njubi and Glady's Keitany will represent the TCU men's and women's cross country teams Monday, November 19 at the 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The championships will be hosted by Furman University at the Furman University Golf Course. The men's 10,000 meter race will begin at 10 a.m. and the women's 6,000-meter race will start at 11:15 a.m. central time.
Eliud Njubi, an all-American last season, has won five events this year, including the NCAA South Central Regional title in College Station... he also won 2001 Conference USA Cross Country Championships... the win was his second straight conference championship... earlier in the fall, he won the UTA Challenge, Baylor Invitational and UNT Invitational... he placed second at the Chile Pepper... overall, he has nine career titles at TCU.... last season, Njubi captured the NCAA South Central Regional title in Denton... Njubi has twice been named the Conference USA Cross Country Male co-Athlete of the Week... he first earned the honor on October 8 after he finished first out of 89 runners at the UNT Invitational... he ran the 8,000-meter event in a time of 24:49... Njubi won the four-mile UTA Challenge with a time of 19:54, then took individual honors at Baylor with a time of 24:45 in the five-mile course... he was also named the C-USA Cross Country Male co-Athlete of the Week on October 16 after he placed second at the Chile Pepper.
Glady's Keitany finished third at the 2001 NCAA South Central Regional Championships to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships... she won the 2001 Conference USA title, her fourth individual title of the season... in addition, it was the second straight year that Keitany had claimed the conference title... last season, she won the WAC Championship... with Keitany's four individual titles, she has raised her career total to eight... she was named the Conference USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week on October 8... Keitany claimed individual honors at the North Texas Invitational on October 5, leading the TCU women to the team title... she placed first out of 107 runners and posted a time of 17:27... Keitany opened the fall with a first-place finish (11:18 time in the two-mile course) in the UTA Challenge... Keitany then won the Baylor Invitational with a time of 17:22 in the 5000-meter race... in the Arkansas Chile Pepper, Keitany finished fourth in a field of 240 runners.
