College Station - TCU senior Eliud Njubi successfully defended his NCAA South Central Regional Cross Country Championship Saturday to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships. Glady's Keitany finished third to earn a individual berth in the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships.
Njubi easily claimed the title, his fifth of the season, as he completed the 10,000-meter course in 30:02, 11 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Overall, the TCU men finished 13th. Last season, Njubi won the NCAA South Central Regional in Denton, then advanced to the NCAA Championships, where he earned All-American honors. Njubi, who has now won nine events in two seasons at TCU, will represent the Frogs at the NCAA Championships on November 19 at Furman University.
With her third place showing, Keitany led the TCU women to a fifth place finish. Keitany, who won the Conference USA title two weeks ago, completed the 6,000-meter course with a time of 20:53, eight seconds behind Andreina Byrd of Arkansas. Keitany will also represent TCU at the NCAA Championships on November 19. Cindy Dietrich finished eighth with a time of 21:07.
Arkansas swept the team titles and claimed the individual women's title. The Arkansas women finished with 46 points, while runner up Texas compiled 85. Baylor was third, while host Texas A&M was fourth, just ahead of the TCU women. In the men's competition, Arkansas scored 56 points, while Texas was second with 115.
