FORT WORTH, Texas - In the last home meet of their careers, TCU swimming and diving's four seniors led the Horned Frogs to victory over Southwest Missouri State. The women won in convincing fashion, 72-41, while the men edged the Bears 58-55.
The meet opened with a pair of TCU victories in the men's and women's 400-yard medley relays. Three of the Horned Frogs' four seniors - Scott Adkins (El Paso, Texas/Franklin), Josh Pipes (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur, and Marisa Schenke (Lee's Summit, Mo./North) - participated in the events, helping the Frogs to an early lead.
"Our seniors definitely closed their home careers in style," TCU head Coach Richard Sybesma said. "They are the catalysts for this team, and their leadership and talents sparked us today."
The squad's final senior, Jamie MacCurdy (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) went on to win two individual events, claiming victory in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.84) and 200-yard backstroke (2:04.38), while also participating on the Horned Frogs' victorious 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:35.00).
Sophomore Erin Irons (Midland, Texas/Midland) also captured a pair of individual crowns, winning the 200- (1:53.25) and 500-yard (5:05.79) freestyle events.
For the men, Adkins iced TCU's win by claiming the next-to-last event, the 200-yard breastroke, with a time of 2:05.50.
Sophomore Stephen Gebren (Bedford, Texas/L.D. Bell/LSU) won both diving competitions, notching a 257.55 in the one-meter and 302.00 in the three-meter.
TCU heads north next week for its first road meets of the season. The trip kicks off Thursday at 5 p.m. at Valparaiso.
