FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 22, 2001) - Sparked by impressive showings from senior Leticia Marquez (Alamo, Texas/Donna) and junior Jessica Green (Lufkin, Texas/Homeschool/Angelina College), the TCU rifle team notched a pair of top-three finishes in the 11th-annual Horned Frog Invitational. The Frogs placed second in the air rifle competition and third in the smallbore.
Marquez led the Horned Frogs' efforts in the air rifle, placing sixth overall with a career-high 364. Fellow senior Jennifer Heim (Altoona, Iowa/Grand Island) was equally impressive with the air rifle, shattering her previous personal best with a 363, tops on TCU's white squad and good for seventh overall.
Green paced TCU in the smallbore competition with a 1,095 to finish fourth individually. Ironically, Green's younger sister, Celeste, participating in the meet as an independent, captured both the smallbore and air rifle titles with marks of 1,160 and 386, respectively.
Conference USA-rival Memphis collected the team air rifle crown while defending regional champion Texas A&M earned the smallbore title.
The Frogs are still awaiting final results from the Texas A&M meet in which they participated on October 13 and will return to competition October 27-28 with a pair of duals at Ole Miss and Memphis.
