FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU's Steve Shuert has been named the Conference USA September Men's Golfer of the Month, the league office announced today. The senior from St. Louis, Mo., currently ranks second in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings system.
Shuert helped the top-ranked Horned Frogs to a first-place finish at the 15-team The Ridges Intercollegiate Invitational in early September by earning medalist honors at an event that included nine teams ranked among the top 25 nationally. His three-round, 12-under-par score of 204 set a tournament record and pushed TCU to a tourney-record tally of 844.
Shuert's final-round 68 enabled him to become the first TCU golfer to win an individual title since J.J. Henry in 1998. During the tournament, he fired three consecutive sub-70 rounds (69-67-68). Shuert's current rating of 66.78 is the second-best in the nation, while TCU's rating of 68.51 is the best in the nation.
The Frogs are in action in the metroplex on October 8-9 at the Red River Classic held at the Dallas Athletic Club. TCU placed second at the event a year ago.
