FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan. 30, 2001)- The TCU baseball team crushed Prairie View A&M 17-0 and 17-2 in a pair of games to open the 2001 season. The first inning of game one set the tone for the Frogs' afternoon, as the team sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs.
TCU (2-0) totaled 17 runs on 15 hits in game one to make starting pitcher Chris Bradshaw (1-0) the winner. The Frogs did all their damage in the first two innings, adding their final six tallies by batting around again in the second. Every TCU starter notched at least one hit in the seven-inning affair.
First baseman Walter Olmstead was the hitting star for the Horned Frogs, going 3-for-5 with six RBI. He had a single, a three-run triple and a three-run home run.
Game two went much the same way as the Frogs jumped on the board by plating seven first-inning runs. The outburst was more than enough for hurler Chad Durham, who improved to 1-0.
Olmstead, one of six TCU players to record at least two hits in the nightcap, continued his torrid hitting pace, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Third baseman Mike Settle and right fielder Tom Bates each launched homers for the Frogs.
