Cross Country Opens With Women Streaking Past Field

Keitany paced the women's group by finishing the two-mile course in a time of 10:49. TCU's strong showing was highlighted by the fact that the Horned Frogs had five of the top eight times on the women's side. Adriana Vitkova placed third with a time of 11:12, while teammate Kate Singleton registered a fifth-place finish in 11:26. Cindy Dietrich (11:31) and Allie Koons (11:32) rounded out TCU's top five finishers.
The Horned Frogs total of 24 points was 50 points better than the next closest competitor, the University of Texas-Arlington (74). North Texas (93) and SMU (98) completed the four-team field.
"Across the board, the ladies ran fantastically," said TCU coach Dan Waters. "They all ran hard and I'm glad to see so many of them finish in the top 10. It was nice to see them running in a pack."
On the men's side, Njubi (19:36) and fellow Frog Herbert Mwangi (19:40) easily topped the leaderboard. Over the four-mile stretch, the two men were approximately three-quarters of a minute faster than the third-place finisher, North Texas' Ciaron Duoogan (20:23).
"It was good to see Eliud and Herbert running easily through most of the race," Waters said. "Overall I was very happy with the way the men competed. I believe they have the potential to be among the best cross country runners in the nation."
TCU's next three competitors (Justin Speer in 21:36, Justin Pillsbury in 21:57 and Matt Valladerez in 22:06) placed 12th, 13th and 14th overall. TCU finished third in an extremely close three-team meet with 42 points, just three points behind the co-champions, North Texas and Texas-Arlington (39).
