Lagat, Keitany Lead TCU Cross Country At SMU Invitational

The University of Texas the men's and women's claimed both team titles. Texas tallied 38 points in the men's university division race, beating SMU (second, 71 points), TCU (third, 89 points), UTEP (fourth, 95 points), Texas-Arlington (fifth, 112 points), Oklahoma (sixth, 130 points) and Northwestern State (seventh, 174 points). The women's team from Texas (36 points) claimed the title in the women's university division. The closest contender was the University of Oklahoma (second, 73 points) followed by TCU (third, 75 points). SMU's Clyde Colenso (25:05) was the top finisher for the men, followed closely by Lagat (25:27). Hanna Smedstad (16:58) from Oklahoma State finished first in the women's 5K race, 13 seconds ahead of Keitany.
"We were a little flat today after a week of hard training, but I was pleased with the way a couple of our people ran today," TCU assistant coach Dan Waters said. "Katie Singleton ran a nice race and Alison Harvey ran well despite being sick with the flu. We're looking forward to meeting Texas and Oklahoma again in competition a couple of weeks from now."
TCU continues its cross country season Friday, Oct. 1, when the women's team competes at the North Texas Invitational in Denton. The men's team continues its season Saturday, Oct. 2, at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
