FORT WORTH, TEXAS (August 16) -- The TCU men's basketball team will tip off their season on Friday, November 17, when the Horned Frogs host Northwestern (Louisiana) State University at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. That marks the start of a 30-game schedule that includes 16 games on the Frogs' home court.
After another home tilt vs. Alabama State on November 20, TCU will travel to the islands to take on Siena University in the first round of the Hawai'i Pacific University Thanskgiving Classic, which will be held November 24-26. Minnesota and Hawai'i Pacific are the other teams in the Horned Frogs' bracket. Georgetown, Central Florida, College of Charleston and Duquense fill out the eight-team field.
Following the three-game tournament in Hawai'i, TCU will play six of its eight games in December in Fort Worth. After traveling to Texas-San Antonio, the Frogs will entertain Virginia Commonwealth, Central Oklahoma, Princeton and Texas-Arlington in a four-game homestand. TCU will travel to Indianapolis to face Butler on December 23, then host Texas Tech at the Fort Worth Convention Center in the nightcap of the Fort Worth Classic on December 28. The Horned Frogs wrap up 2000 by hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, December 30.
TCU begins its final season in the Western Athletic Conference by hosting Hawaii on January 4. After entertaining San Jose State on January 6, the Frogs take a three-game roadtrip to Fresno State, Nevada and Tulsa. Following that trip, TCU returns to Fort Worth for a four-game homestand and an eight-game stretch in which they will not leave the state. They host Rice, Grambling, SMU and Tulsa from January 20-February 1, then travel to UTEP and Rice, before entertaining Fresno State and Nevada, February 15 and 17.
Three of the Horned Frogs final four regular season games will be conference road contests. The Frogs will play at Hawai'i and San Jose State, February 22 and 24, then host UTEP on March 1 before wrapping up the regular season at SMU on March 3. The 2001 WAC Tournament will be held March 8-10 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Horned Frogs return 10 lettermen and four starters from a team that finished with an 8-6 conference record and a 16-14 mark overall in 1999-2000.
