Bailey, who was recently named the school's Associate Director of Athletics - Operations, has spent the past 22 years as head athletic trainer at TCU. His responsibilities have included athletic injury recognition and care, treatment and rehabilitation. Prior to assuming the position of head trainer in 1978, he served one season as a graduate assistant and four years as a student trainer. A certified member of NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association), Bailey was the 1985 recipient of the Eddie Wojecki-Trainer of the Year award and earned the Frank Medina award for service to athletic training and mankind in 1999.
The SWATA was initiated in the spring of 1985 to recognize and honor the Athletic Trainers from District VI of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) whose past achievements, contributions to the athletic training profession and service to SWATA has brought distinction to the Association and to themselves as well.
Following the initial charter in 1985, as least one and no more than two athletic trainers have been inducted annually into the SWATA Hall of Fame. Elmer Brown, who served as TCU's head athletic trainer from 1950-1977, was a charter member of the SWATA Hall of Fame.
Bailey received his B.S. degree in Physical Education from TCU in 1976 and also earned a master's degree in education from TCU. A Dallas native, Bailey and his wife, the former Mary Hutton of San Antonio, Texas, are the parents of two daughters, Lauren and Courtney.
