6/15/2000 12:00:00 AM | Football
The schedule begins Saturday, Sept. 16 when TCU and its Heisman Trophy candidate, running back LaDainian Tomlinson, host Northwestern at 11:00 a.m. (CT). The following week, Sept. 23, California travels to Fresno to take on the Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. (PT). Fresno State will again be featured Thursday, October 5, when it heads to Houston to battle the Rice Owls at 6:00 p.m. (CT). Two other games are scheduled for national telecasts, but the teams have not been determined at this time. Games on Nov. 11 and Nov. 24 will be announced on a six- or 12-day advance notice. FSN will also nationally televise TCU's game at Navy on Sept. 30, but the game is not part of the WAC's package.
"We are pleased to see the growth in the number of games in the second year of our partnership with FOX Sports Net," said WAC Commissioner Karl Benson. "We are also excited about the games that will be televised nationally. It will give us the opportunity to showcase the high level of competition in the WAC."
FOX Sports Net will also telecast the first annual Silicon Valley Football Classic on Dec. 31 at 3:30 p.m. (PT). The game will be played in San Jose, California and will feature one of the top WAC teams against a national at-large opponent.
This is the second year that the WAC and FSN have teamed up. FOX Sports Net will also televise up to five regional WAC games this year with dates and teams to be announced at a later date. FSN is America's first truly national, regional and local supplier of sports programming, and reaches more than 70 million homes through its network of 21 regional sports networks.
