He was also first in doubles (14), hits (53) and on-base percentage (.529), third in RBI (28) and fourth in slugging percentage (.585). In all games, he led the WAC with a .376 batting average and a .488 on-base percentage. He also had 41 RBI, 41 runs scored, 17 doubles and four triples. Ruiz was the WAC's co-Freshman of the Year in 1999.

Piraro led San Jose State to its first regular season title in the WAC with a 19-11 mark and the Spartans' first NCAA tournament berth since 1971, when Piraro was a freshman on the team. The Spartans were 36-20 overall and have been ranked in the top 30 a couple of weeks this season.
Fresno State and Rice led the conference with four players each on the all-WAC first team. Hawai'i placed two players while San Jose State and TCU each had one. Two of the 12 first-team all-WAC performers from a year ago are repeat performers, including Fresno State Anthony Acevedo and Hawai'i's Jamie Aloy.
San Jose State placed five players on the second team, followed by Hawai'i-Hilo and Rice with two players and Fresno State, Hawai'i and TCU with one apiece.
