Baseball to Host Rice This Weekend

The TCU Horned Frogs (21-31, 11-15) enter the final weekend of the 2000 season as they host WAC rival Rice (37-20, 16-10) in a four-game series, May 19-21, at the TCU Diamond. TCU and Rice will play single games on Friday and Sunday, and a doubleheader on Saturday. Game three of the TCU-Rice series in Houston was rained out, thus the four-game set in Fort Worth.
The Owls, ranked 25th by Collegiate Baseball, have won five straight games, including a three-game sweep of San Jose State last weekend. The Frogs have played 21 games against nationally ranked opponents, compiling a record of 7-14. TCU defeated Southwest Texas, 8-3, last Sunday at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
The Rice series will be the final collegiate games for five TCU seniors: Levi Groomer, Mark Hamilton, Brad Rogers, Shawn Thompson and Shaun Wooley.
103rd SEASON OF TCU BASEBALL
This is the 103rd edition of TCU baseball. The Frogs have an all-time mark
of 1501-1305-25 for a winning percentage of .538. The Frogs achieved two
milestones this season, both against Hawaii. The March 10th contest at
Hawai`i was the 2800th baseball game in TCU history and the 7-1 win over the
Rainbows on April 28 was TCU's 1500th win.
HEAD COACH LANCE BROWN
The 2000 Horned Frogs are under the guidance of head coach Lance Brown (TCU,
1967). Brown, TCU's all-time winningest coach, surpassed the 400 win mark in
TCU's 13-9 win over UTA. In his 14th season as the head coach at TCU, Brown
has a record of 419-399. He is assisted by Donnie Watson, Barry Takahashi
and Chris Connally.
WAC PLAY
The Frogs are in their fourth season in the WAC. TCU has compiled a
conference record of 63-51-0, finishing second in all three seasons in the
WAC. Last season, TCU ended conference play with a record of 19-10,
advancing to the Championship game of the WAC Tournament. Always tough at
the TCU Diamond, the Frogs have a record of 39-17 in home conference games.
On the road, the Frogs have compiled a record of 24-34. This season, TCU is
8-4 at home in WAC play and 3-11 on the road.
TCU-RICE SERIES
When TCU and Rice begin play on Friday, it will be the 221st meeting between
the two teams...the Frogs lead in the overall series, 113-106-1... since the
two teams joined the WAC in 1997, Rice has won 13 of the 19 games between
the two schools... earlier this year, TCU and Rice split the rain-shortened
two-game series in Houston... the Frogs won the opener, 3-0, and the Owls
took game two, 12-3... this will be Rice's first trip to Fort Worth since
the 1998 season, when the Frogs lost two-of-three to Rice (4-10, 1-7,
11-4)... the last seven games played between TCU and Rice have been away
from the TCU Diamond... Lance Brown has a career record of 23-32 against
Rice., including a record of 14-10 at the TCU Diamond.

Thirty of the 52 games this season have been decided by three runs or less...
