FORT WORTH (April 27) - Chris Bradshaw pitched his first complete game of the year, leading TCU to a 4-1 win over Hawaii Thursday at the TCU Diamond. The Frogs improve to 19-27 overall, 10-11 in Western Athletic Conference play. Hawaii drops to 22-26 overall, 9-13 in the WAC.
Bradshaw scattered eight hits in the complete game effort, raising his record to 5-5 this season. The only runs scored on Bradshaw was a solo home run by Darin Baker in the eighth. Bradshaw walked four and struck out three. Six of the eight Hawaii hits came with two outs in an inning.
TCU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring one run in the second inning. Jason Price singled to start the inning, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Price then scored when pitcher Jamie Aloy misplayed Rudy Rivera's ground ball.
TCU scored three runs on four hits in the sixth, increasing the lead to 4-0. Brad Rogers' home run to right field drove in Mark Hamilton, who had opened the inning with a base hit to center field. In the process, Rogers extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Price singled and scored on Rivera's base hit to left center.
Aloy allowed four runs, three earned on six hits in six innings pitched. He hit two men in the game, including Levi Groomer. The senior third baseman has now been hit 22 times this season. Groomer and Price each singled twice in the game. Hamilton reached base three times on a single, hit batsmen and a walk.
The two teams will continue the series with a single game Friday, April 28. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. TCU's Shawn Thompson is scheduled to face Hawaii's Rando Ho.
