Men's Golf Finishes Seventh in ASU Thunderbird

Arizona State shot 846 and defeated in-state rivals Arizona by two strokes. Fresno State was third with 850, four shots behind. New Mexico placed fourth at 854. Oregon and the Swedish National Team each shot 862 to tie for fifth. TCU came in at one-under par (863) for seventh place.
Arizona State senior Paul Casey sank a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to win with a 9-under 207 (69-69-69) as he held off Arizona's Derek Gillespie, who shot a 8-under 208, including a 68 on Sunday. Casey triple-bogeyed the par-4 No. 13, but came back to get a birdie on the next hole and birdied the final hole to clinch the 6individual honors and give ASU a two-shot team win.
Two TCU players finished in the top 10. Sophomore Andy Doeden (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) was the Frogs' top finisher. Doeden shot a five-under, 211 (72-69-70) to pace the frogs. Doeden finished just four shots off the lead.
Sophomore Steve Shuert (St. Louis, Mo./Country Day) finished 10th in his second outing as a Frog. After shooting two rounds above par, Shuert shot the second best final round of the tournament (65) as he finished with a three-under, 214.
Also for TCU, sophomore Bret Guetz (Littleton, Colo) finished tied for 32nd at 219. Freshman Jamie Kellam (Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville placed 39th at 220. Junior Aaron Hickman (Palestine, Texas/Palestine) ended the tournament in 79th place at 229.
TCU is finished with its regular season with this event. The Frogs remain idle until May 1-3 when it competes in the WAC Championships at Castle Hills Golf Club in Lewisville, Texas.
