TCU Finishes Eighth at Shenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. (Mar. 27) - TCU placed eighth in a 15-team field at the Shenkel Invitational. Georgia ran away from the field at the in Statesboro, Ga., winning the event by 17 strokes over Clemson.
TCU golfers performed well at the event. Led by junior Aaron Hickman (Palestine, Texas/Palestine HS), TCU shot a three-round 870, six strokes over par. Hickman was the top TCU finisher in 23rd place, with a three-round total of even par, 216. Two Frogs tied for 32nd place with a 219. The scorecards of sophomores Bret Guetz (Littleton, Colo/Mullen HS) and Andy Doeden (Fargo, N.D./Shanley HS) look very similar as each recorded a 72-71-76-219 score. Freshman Jamie Kellam (Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville HS) recorded his best individual placing of the season. Kellam placed 48th with a 222 total. Junior Sal Spallone (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward's Acad.) placed 50th, with a total of 223.
Georgia junior Bubba Watson claimed medalist honors, scrambling his way to a round of two-under 70 and a three-day total of 13 under, 203. Watson held off North Carolina's Max Harris, who finished just two shots back at 11-under 205.
The Frogs hectic spring season continues. TCU travels to Los Cabos, Mexico, to take part in the U.S. Collegiate on April 7-9.
