Hawai`i Defeats TCU, 14-6

HONOLULU (Mar. 13) -- Pat Scalabrini had four hits to lead the Hawaii Rainbows to a 14-6 win over TCU Sunday at Rainbow Stadium. The Rainbows swept the three-game series from the Frogs.
As a team, Hawaii had a season-high 20 hits against five TCU pitchers. Chris Frazier allowed five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings, dropping his fourth consecutive start. Hawaii had three hits against Stan Newton, two against both Josh Gardner and Chris Osentowski and five against Chad Durham.
The Frogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring a pair of runs in the second on two hits. Tom Bates, who singled to open the inning, scored on a double steal. Erick Macha singled and stole second. He then stole third and scored on a throwing error by Hawaii catcher Kenn Wakakuwa.
The Rainbows scored twice in the third to tie the game. Then in the fifth, Hawaii chased Frazier from the game, putting five runs on the board on six hits. TCU responded with four runs in the sixth, cutting the deficit to one run. Mark Hamilton and Jason Price led off with back to back singles. Hawaii pitcher Rich Snider misplayed Tom Bates' ground ball, allowing Hamilton to score. Mickey Scala tripled to score Price and Bates, and then Macha drove in Scala. Macha and Scala led the Frogs with two hits.
The Rainbows then added seven runs in the final three innings, scoring once in the sixth, and three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. TCU will travel to Hilo, Hawaii to face the University of Hawaii-Hilo on Thursday, March 16.
