Texas Christian Men Defeat Arkansas State, 90-82

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) (Dec. 4) - Marquise Gainous scored 31 points to lead Texas Christian to a 90-82 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday.
Ganious was 14-of-22 from the field and made 3-of-4 free throws as Texas Christian (4-2) held on to a 7-point halftime lead by making 13-of-17 free throws in the second half.
Arkansas State outrebounded TCU 53-39 but fell to 0-4 on the season, its worst start since the 1967-68 season when the Indians began 0-11.
TCU led 44-37 at halftime. The Indians closed the gap to 4 early in the second half when Chico Fletcher made a 3-pointer. But 4 points was as close as the Indians got the rest of the game.
The Horned Frogs led by as many as 16 in the second half. The Indians cut the lead to 8 when Odie Williams hit a 3-pointer with 2:52 remaining.
A Derrick Davenport jumper pushed the lead back to 10 with 2:30 left. After Arkansas State missed a shot, DeShawn Denson grabbed a TCU turnover while falling out of bounds and called for a timeout. But the Indians had none and a technical foul was assessed. Gainous hit both free throws.
Ryan Carroll had 17 for TCU and Davenport had 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Kolin Weaver, a transfer from Siena, led Arkansas State with 19 points and tied his collegiate high with 11 rebounds. Denson had 8 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. C.J. Pepper and Geoff Williams each scored 12 for the Indians.
