FORT WORTH (Dec. 23) Guard Gerrod Henderson scored 22 points and tied a Louisiana Tech record with six three-point baskets to lead the Bulldogs to a 95-76 upset victory over TCU Thursday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Louisiana Tech (7-3) never trailed on the way to handing the Horned Frogs (7-5) their worst home loss since a 128-84 loss to Tulsa on Feb. 27, 1997. The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field while hitting 13-of-24 from three-point range, just two shy of the Tech school single-game record.
They're a pretty good ball team and the shot the ball well tonight, but that seems to be becoming a pattern against us, said TCU head coach Billy Tubbs. We're playing some good teams right now, even though they don't have a marquee name. That's a solid team we played tonight.
Forward Derrick Davenport led TCU with 24 points and 12 rebounds, one of three TCU players to post double-doubles in the game along with forward Marquise Gainous (11 points, 13 rebounds) and forward Myron Anthony (19 points, 13 rebounds). Freshman forward Antonio Meeking posted a double-double for Tech with 18 points and 10 rebounds while hitting nine-of-11 shots from the field.
Tech raced to an early lead behind the hot shooting of Henderson, who hit his first five three-point attempts as the Bulldogs shot 53.3 percent from three-point range (eight-of-15). Tech built a 26-10 lead and extended it to 39-19 before the Horned Frogs pulled within 44-37 at halftime. While Tech lived off the three-point shot, the Horned Frogs died by it as TCU connected on just one-of-19 from beyond the arc.
TCU shot 35.1 percent from the field and lost despite outrebounding the Bulldogs, 46-44, and making all 21 free throw attempts in the game.
It's not a fun game when you can't score, Tubbs said. Our perimeter shooting tonight really hurt us. I thought some of our inside people played well tonight, but we just couldn't get our guards going tonight.
