FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) (Dec. 11) - The first of Kevin Ault's three 3-pointers ignited a 16-5 second-half surge and drive Southwest Missouri State to a 69-60 win Saturday night over host Texas Christian.
Southwest Missouri State scored the game's first eight points and then maintained the lead for all but 64 seconds to win 69-60 at Texas Christian on Saturday night.
The three key 3-pointers accounted for nine of Ault's 11 points, and they came just when S.W. Missouri (5-3) needed them. The Bears, who advanced to the final 16 of last year's NCAA Tournament, had lost three of their previous five games.
Charles Gains scored 11 points to share the Bear lead.
Texas Christian (5-4) opened the second half with an 11-4 run to take its only lead. But after the Horned Frogs went ahead 41-40 on a Marquise Gainous free throw with 14:03 left, S.W. Missouri regained control for good with the 16-5 offensive.
Ault's first 3-pointer started the decisive run, and he hit another trey with 7:56 left to put Southwest Missouri up 56-46. After TCU closed to four points down with two minutes left, Ault hit another 3-pointer.
The Bears opened the game with four unanswered baskets by William Fontleroy to open an 8-0 lead. TCU missed its first eight shots before Ryan Carroll's inside basket almost five minutes into the game.
Gainous had 14 points to lead TCU, which made just 20-of-64 field goals (31 percent) and finished with a season-low scoring output. The Horned Frogs were averaging 90 points a game.
