FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 6) - Ryan Carroll, Marquise Gainous and Vladimir Jaksic each tallied 22 points to lead TCU past MBK Odessa of Ukraine, 119-74, in exhibition college basketball Saturday night.
Carroll played 19 minutes, with Gainous seeing 22 minutes of action and Jaksic staying in the game for 27 minutes on the night. Bingo Merriex added 15 points and Derrick Davenport chipped in with 10 for the Horned Frogs.
"We were a little rough in spots, made a few mistakes, but you expect that in your first exhibition game," said Tubbs. "I liked our hustle, I liked our team effort. I think we have more depth, and we have some players coming off the bench to get excited about. I think the play tonight will be indicative of this team, a real team concept."
Tubbs said he was especially pleased with his team's 30 assists and the 30 turnovers they caused Odessa to commit.
"We got pretty good play out of a lot of people tonight. I think we are going to look more at what kind of production we get out of a position, rather than an individual. We had a lot of people contributing for us, and if you break down our production by position, then it will be significant."
Odessa was led by 16 points from Mykhailo Melnikov, with Vadym Pudzyrey adding 15. Victor Zavchenko pumped in 12, and Yevgen Murzin had 11 on the night.
TCU connected on 53.4 percent of its field goal tries (39-of-73) and outrebounded Odessa 40-30, with Carroll grabbing a game-high seven boards.
The Frogs will play another exhibition game on Fri., Nov. 12, hosting Athletes First at 8:05 p.m.
