Women's Golf Leads Midwest Classic After One Round

The Horned Frogs tally of 18-over, 306, leads the event by four strokes over Northwestern, the tournament's host, and Missouri (310). Michigan State trails TCU by seven strokes (313) and SMU is nine shots (315) off the TCU pace.
Michigan State's Emily Bastell leads the individual event with the only score under par, a one-uner 71. TCU sophomore Lori Sutherland (DeSoto, Texas/Duncanville HS) is one shot of the lead with an even par, 72. Sutherland is tied with Emily Gilley from Northwestern.
Also in the top 10 for TCU is senior Angela Stanford (Saginaw, Texas/Boswell HS), a two-time individual winner this season. She shot a first round 75 and is four strokes off the lead. In a tie for 13th place is freshman Shannon Barr (China Spring, Texas/China Spring HS). She shot a first-round 78.
Rounding out the TCU roster is two golfers tied for 28th place. Junior Brenda Anderson (Rio Rancho, N.M./Round Rock McNeil HS) and sophomore Jennifer Patterson (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) shot a nine-over 81 on the day.
Play continues tomorrow at the Bear Creek G.C. with the second round. The final round is scheduled for Sunday.
