TCU Falls to Baylor, 11-2

WACO (Feb. 20) -- Ross Bennett slammed an RBI single to right field to spark six runs in the eighth inning and lead the Baylor baseball team to an 11-2 defeat of TCU Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the No. 11 Bears improve to 8-2 on the season, while the Horned Frogs fall to 4-8.
Baylor got on the board in the first inning. Bennett led off with an infield single, and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Jaime Bubela. Jace Brewer hit an infield single and moved to second on an error by the pitcher, which brought in Bennett and put the Bears up 1-0.
In the fourth, Steve Dorneman reached base on a fielder's choice and Preston Underdown walked, putting runners in scoring position at first and second. Anthony Hensley smacked a two-run double to right field. Bennett then singled to bring in Hensley and put Baylor up 4-1.
After scoring one run in the seventh, the Bears exploded for six runs in the eighth. Underdown led off with a walk and Hensley reached base on an error on the pitcher. Bennet singled to right field to bring in Underdown. Bubela hit an infield single and stole second to put runners at second and third. With just one out, Matt Williams hit a two-run double and Shoppach followed up with the same, bringing in Williams and reaching third base on an error by the third baseman.
Junior left-hander Josh Scott (1-1) earned his first win of the season, scattering seven hits and two runs over seven innings. He also struck out seven batters and walked none. Freshman Derek Brehm made his first appearance in relief, giving up one hit in two innings. TCU's Shawn Thompson (1-1) got the loss, giving up five runs on six hits in 6.2 innings.
