Men's Cross Country Wins at North Texas

TCU tallied 31 points, easily outdistancing Northwood University (45), North Texas (59), Texas A&M Commerce (89) and Wylie College (119).
TCU's junior tandem of Eliud Njubi and Herbert Mwangi finished first and second in the meet. The Kenyans covered the five-mile course in 24:32 and 24:33 respectively, nearly a minute and half faster than their nearest competitor. Justin Speer (7th), Stephen Goff (10th), Bryan Katchinska (11th) and Justin Pillsbury (12th) rounded out the top six Horned Frog runners.
We ran pretty well, said TCU Cross Country coach Dan Waters. It was very windy and chilly and there wasn't a lot of competition for Eliud and Herbert. It was a true five-mile course, so it was a good tune-up for the Pre-National Meet.
On the women's side, the TCU B squad finished second in the five-team race. The Horned Frogs tallied 57 points, trailing only Baylor (37). North Texas (65), Northwood University (89) and Tarleton State (95) rounded out the field.
Shannon McKinney was the top TCU finisher, competing the three-mile run in eighth place with a time of 18:54. Brian Lanzara had the same official time as McKinney and placed ninth. Stacy Locker (11th), Stephanie Wentworth (14th) and Kim Vest (15th) rounded out the top five finishers for the Horned Frogs.
We sent our B' team to get some experience and the results were promising, said Waters. Some of the girls turned in their best times. Hopefully this was a breakthrough event for them.
Both squads will return to action next Saturday. Waters will take Njubi and Mwangi to Ames for the Pre-National Meet, while the remainder of the men's squad will head to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational. The women will travel to Fayetteville for the Arkansas Chili Pepper meet.
