TCU's sophomore duo of Glady's Keitany and Katie Singleton posted a pair of top 20 finishes against an outstanding field of 162 runners to lead the Horned Frogs to a fifth place finish in the team standings. Keitany placed 10th, traversing the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, one second, while Singleton placed 13th overall in 18:07. Their performances highlighted TCU's day as the team gained valuable experience for the season's most crucial competitions: the Western Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks and the NCAA South Central Regional Championship nine days after that.
As expected, Arkansas took the team title with a meet-low 20 points. Wisconsin was second with 51, Rice took third with 155 followed by Wichita State with 184. TCU's 189 points placed the Horned Frogs fifth, ahead of several powerful teams including Oklahoma, Iowa and LSU.
"All in all, it was a very encouraging day," said TCU assistant coach Dan Waters. "This was a valuable meet for us because of the outstanding competition. It's a perfect segue into the most important phase of our season."
Other TCU competitors were sophomore Georgeanne Biancardi (33rd, 19:01), senior Alison Harvey (65th, 19:34), freshman Shannon McKinney (68th, 19:37) and freshman Melody Raffloer (112th, 20:46).
TCU takes next weekend off before both the men's and women's teams compete at the WAC Championships at Fresno, Calif., to be held Saturday, Oct. 30.
