After snaring second place in the event, the 13th-ranked Horned Frogs now have three top three finishes in four tournaments this season. Previously, the team won The Ridges Intercollegiate Invitational and took third at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational.
Leading the balanced attack were senior Aaron Hickman (75-69-69=213) and sophomore Jamie Kellam (69-69-75=213), who each shot three-under-par for the tournament. Each player shredded the course for a pair of sub-70 rounds to wind up in a tie for 13th place individually. It was Hickman's third top 20 finish of the season and the first for Kellam.
In addition, junior Andy Doeden (73-72-72=217), sophomore Adam Rubinson (68-79-72=219) and senior Scott Volpitto (74-71-74=219) participated in the team competition for TCU. Redshirt freshman Stephen Polanski (76-75-76=227) competed individually.
"We played well throughout the tournament," head coach Bill Montigel said. "We're always looking to be playing in the last group in the final round of every tournament and we accomplished that goal. Being in that final group puts us in the high-pressure situations that will help us in the spring."
Southern California claimed the team title with a three-round score of 848, just three strokes ahead of TCU (851) and five ahead of Texas (853).
TCU, which has played in 10 of the 13 Red River Classics, matched its best finish ever in the event. The 1992 Frogs squad also placed second in the 54-hole contest.
