Arkansas State Late Run Squashes Frogs

FORT WORTH (Dec. 4) - Julie Hagood and Tanisha Johnson each scored five points over the last three minutes to lead Arkansas State over TCU, 73-67, in the championship game of the Cook Children's TCU Hoops Invitational.
Hagood, the tourney's most valuable player, hit a three-pointer to give the Indians (6-0) a 67-62 lead with 1:56 remaining. She later sank a pair of free throws with seven second left en route to her game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds.
TCU (5-2) trailed by as many as 15 in the first half, and were behind by 12 points with 18:30 to go, but rallied over the next 10 minutes with a 24-9 run to post a 52-49 lead at the 8:38 mark. The lead changed hands three times over the next four minutes, before Hagood's three-pointer.
Joining Hagood on the all-tournament team were Johnson and Keeshia Evans. Johnson had 13 points and seven rebounds against TCU, with Evans adding 10. The Horned Frogs were paced by Tricia Payne with 20, and Amy Sutton with 15. Both were named to the all-tourney team.
The loss was the first at home for first-year TCU coach Jeff Mittie, who served as head coach of Arkansas State the past four seasons before taking over the Horned Frogs on August 19. Frances Boone of Colgate was also selected to the all-tournament team.
